TO's Monthly News Magazine
In October 2007 Toronto's Monthly News Magazine premiered. Our goal: to tell the stories that
matter in Toronto.
The Toronto Tribune has grown from our monthly
art magazine,
International Art Treasures
(IAT).
Four years ago, IAT was born of the idea to positively showcase art and artists: past, present and emerging contemporary talent. Media coverage for
contemporary artists was limited to non-existent in Toronto's Main Stream Media (MSM). Our goal was to provide a place to celebrate the talent in Toronto. IAT features
past masters such as Michelangelo, Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, intermixed with articles on contemporary artists from Toronto and beyond. During the past four years
IAT has come across stories that didn't fit in a publication with its positive mandate and focus on the arts. Thus the birth of
The Toronto Tribune.
A tribune is from ancient Roman times. It refers to an official who was elected solely to represent the interests of the people. It seemed a fitting choice for
our purposes.
The MSM has lost credibility for it's ad nausea coverage of one story, such as CNN's All Elian, All the Time one-story focus. Unfortunately the Toronto MSM
has chosen to travel this path. It is wonderful that children are reading. It is
not front page news for over a week discussing the launch of a single book. Our
competition will not be the 4 Toronto dailies. We want to discuss and feature
the stories that get little coverage but they matter. They affect lives!
