Dear David Miller

Toronto is going to the dogs on your watch!

During the last week in February of 2008 an aboriginal man was found dead in a parking lot at Yonge and Charles in Toronto.

Earlier in February you heard Street Health present some disturbing findings at the Toronto Police Services Board. You sit on this board and unlike a lot of the cops, you actually paid attention when Street Health spoke.

How much time did the Toronto Cops at Division 53 division waste on one dog napped pooch? The cops take the biggest chunk of the city's cash and how much of these valuable resources were spent on the Mutt investigation.

We can think of far more pressing issues for the cops to deal with in Toronto, other than Cruella da Ville.

If the money wasted on the puppy patrol at 53 Division had been spent on  providing safe housing would a man have died on a freezing cold night in a Toronto parking garage in February?

What's truly pathetic is a few days before the sad discovery of the body, Joe Mihevc's committee heard from the Homeless, from Street Health, from Central Neighbourhood House, from Cathy Crow, from the Mennonite Central Committee all saying the same thing. Toronto doesn't have enough shelter beds. The homeless are being turned away because the city doesn't have the spaces for them.

No money for the homeless but a ton wasted on one dog?

We have another bone to pick with you David. At the "Special Public Meeting, of the TPSB on February 25th, Police Chief Bill Blair came cap in hand asking for "$801.3 million (M), a 1.9% increase over the 2007 approved net operating budget". You didn't attend the money meeting. Want to know how long it took for the Alok and the rest to agree? 38 minutes (from 9:25 to 10:03).

Let's look at the last TPSB meeting that you did attend. At that meeting the TPSB admitted that for over 18 months they had been unable to come up with a protocol for what the cops are to do when faced with the scantily clad. 18 Months and the cops come up empty - course a puppy wasn't involved and neither was $800 million dollars.

Work on your priorities David.

Toronto deserves better!

With our kindest regards,
