Panhandling the Path: In December of 2007
homelessness was pushed front and center in the world's largest underground shopping mall, the PATH. Christmas shoppers and businesspeople
encountered the poor panhandling alongside extra security and a massive police presence. Someone had to pay for all those
man-hours, namely shoppers
and taxpayers. OCAP, the protest organizers, didn't even need to show up to make their point. But they did.
The Inaccessible TTC and the DAMN2025 Protest at St. Patrick Subway Toronto,
with some overzealous 52 Division Officers. But for the actions of a few rogue police officers this article
would focus solely on the inadequacies of the Toronto Transit Commission to meet the needs
of the infirm, elderly and disabled
with their aging fleet of inaccessible vehicles
The Queen's Park Hypocrites
on Dalton's Anti-Poverty Committee: Health Minister George Smitherman; Finance Minister Dwight Duncan;
Education Minister Kathleen Wynne; Municipal Affairs Minister Jim
Watson; Training, Colleges and Universities Minister John Milloy;
Attorney General Chris Bentley, Citizenship and Immigration Minister
Michael Chan, Children and Youth Services Minister Deb Matthews are all on the New Anti-Poverty Committee. They say
little and do even less to address the serious issues facing the poor in Ontario.
Kyle Rae and Michael Feldman: Above the Law?: Twelve
hours after any snowstorm Toronto residents, under a city by-law, are required to be nice and clear your ice. This by-law is ignored
by the Board Members of the Toronto Parking Authority such as Councilors Kyle Rae and Michael Feldman. Slip slide along the sidewalks
next to TPA managed properties this winter thanks to the inattention of Rae and Feldman and the rest of the TPA board.
